You can’t heal in the space that has caused you harm

In a recent conversation with a friend we shared about the experiences that we were having in our interpersonal relationships. I mentioned to my friend how I’ve become aware of the healing that has taken place for me since relocating from New York to California over a year ago. I also mentioned how much more aware I am of the spiritual medicine that I bring and the way that I am able to share it with my community. My friend responded by saying, “you can’t heal in the space that has caused you harm.” Her comment immediately resonated with me and caused me to think about how my healing journey actually began for me when I lived in New York at a time when I wasn’t fully aware that this was taking place.

My journey to healing from a lot of the trauma that I’d experienced actually started to take place when Spirit led me to my spiritual herbalism apprenticeship program. It was through meeting my teacher, learning about the different herbs and becoming a part of that community that I began to get in touch with Spirit’s purpose for my life as a healer. When I arrived on the West Coast I immediately began to notice major differences with how I felt about myself, my personal relationships as well as how the people around me responded to my presence. I felt seen, heard and appreciated in a way that I did not experience in the space of trauma. Since living on the West Coast, I’ve shared with countless friends and loved ones that moving to California was very healing for me. I believe that Spirit moved me to a place where a greater amount of healing could take place as I continue on my journey…for this I am very thankful.
