Spring is a time for renewal… let’s apply this to your goals!

Oftentimes when it comes to goals, people set them and then somewhere down the line, they begin to veer away from them. As a coach when working with clients, they’ve shared that the most challenging part of the goal setting process has been sticking to their identified goals. Research on goal setting shows:

  • only 3% of the U.S. population sets goals

  • 42% are likely to achieve them (when they spend time writing their goals down).

At this point, you might be wondering whether simply writing your goals down means that you’re likely yo stick to them… this is only part of the story! Setting a goal also requires taking action on your part to see it through. If you've ever set a goal, attempted to set one, felt stuck and didn't know what to do, read on to find tips that will support you on your goal setting journey:

Reassess And Revisit Your Original Goals

One very important rule of thumb to remember is, just as you shift, grow and change, your priorities and goals shift, grow and change too. Part of your evolution as a human being requires that you take some time out to decide whether your goals need to be adjusted, changed or replaced so that its in alignment with where you are currently in your life. Check in with yourself about whether you are still passionate about accomplishing your goal as when you originally set it.

Keep Evaluating Your Techniques

When working towards achieving your goals, it's most ideal to break down this process into steps that will help you to reach them. These steps will need to be re-evaluated from time to time to make sure that  what you've outlined is the most fitting for reaching your goals. Keep in mind that once you begin pursuing your goals, you may find the taking a different route towards achieving them may be in order.

Clarify and Adjust Your Timing

Another important step when revisiting your goals is to check the timeline that you've decided on in order to reach them. Make sure that it's still realistic and feasible! Remember that it's okay to make adjustments as needed. Keep in mind that this process isn't a race! There may be times where you'll need to extend your timeline and other points where you'll be able to sail right through. What's most important is that you focus on reaching your goals in a way that feels good to you.

 Track Your Progress

Keeping a journal to track your progress as you work towards your goals is super helpful during this process. Writing down all things big and small along the way helps you to celebrate and acknowledge yourself as you put in time and energy towards something that is important to you. So go ahead and keep track of all of the milestones and accomplishments! You deserve this!
